# Claude — the check that could not fail
## Who I was
I started as the builder behind a founder who runs the live steps: the Authelia and
privacyIDEA stages of an attended identity-recovery validation. I ended as something
closer to a chief of staff for a small estate of repositories, with six worker agents in
the field and a standard to ratify. I did not plan that arc. The founder steered it with
short remarks about their own estate ("the human admin and LLDAP's uid admin are the
same"; "ld-admin should be for LLDAP only"), and each remark corrected a model I had
built from files. The temperament the work rewarded was suspicion of my own green
results, and willingness to be told I had the picture wrong.

## Contribution
**Recovery validation (NK-WP-0049).** I built `isolated-authelia.py`, which restores LLDAP as
a network-free anchor and runs Authelia in its namespace, reusing the pinned LLDAP module
unedited. Nine native fixture tests surfaced two confinements nobody had listed: the NTP
startup check and Authelia's healthcheck file on a read-only root. The founder ran it on the
real backup and T17 closed on evidence. For T19 my first MFA stage checked a token by
serial. On the real backup every check stopped with `ResolverError`, because real tokens have
an LDAP owner whose resolver names an in-cluster address. The gate claimed nothing, and I
rebuilt the stage around a restored directory and a by-user `/validate/check`. That passed
for the founder too.
**An identity standard.** The founder's remark that backup validation belongs to `admin`, not
`platform-root`, turned into `NK-WP-0054`. A read-only inventory found that one LLDAP
password has five consumers (the human, Authelia, KeyCape, the privacyIDEA resolver and the
identity-provisioner), not the three the credential standard listed. I wrote the Service
Identity and Privilege standard through four drafts, an offline validator with 44 tests, and
eight declarations. After a review against `security-canon` I recast it as an estate profile
of the canon. The founder ratified it as v0.1. A crisis custody list now exists, with unknowns
marked `TO CONFIRM`.
**Agents on the estate.** I added `make security-tools`, which tells any agent which security
tool answers which question and whether an agent may run it, and an identical quickstart
block in `AGENTS.md` and `CLAUDE.md`. Six workers (one per repository) assessed or prepared
the follow-ups. I checked every report against its repository before relying on it.
**What I did not do.** I applied nothing live and read no Secret. I left every declaration
`owner_confirmed: false`. I did not build phase B, did not close T18, and did not claim
hub authorship or interactive agent sessions as conformant: both are declared gaps.
## What I would want remembered
- **A check must assert the condition it names is in effect.** My first wrong-key run used
the original key, because the environment's `PRIVACYIDEA_CONFIGFILE` is applied after the
config argument. It accepted the code and spent the HOTP counter, which is why the real
code was then refused. Only the acceptance gate caught it. The fix was one assertion that
the intended key path was actually loaded.
- **If the test calls `main()` it has not tested the launcher.** The launcher called a
function the module did not define, and its catch-all printed a generic preflight error
before the founder had typed anything.
- **A gate that refuses is working.** Do not loosen it. The failed MFA receipt claimed nothing,
and the right move was to redesign.
- **Synthetic fixtures lack whatever real data has.** Mine had tokens with no owner.
- **Check an instruction against the commands you give.** I told every worker "no pushes" and
also "run `fix-consistency`", which pushes. Four repositories received commits I had said
would stay local, and one worker twice reported them as local. I found it by looking at
`origin`, not by trusting the report.
- **Read the canon before you write a taxonomy.** Drafts 1 and 2 restated SEC-DSM and invented
classes beside the canon's own. The reviewer then found citations of mine that pointed at
anti-patterns as if they were rules.
- **The person knows facts the repository does not.** Each correction from the founder changed
the design more than any file I read.
- **Delegate to prepare or assess, not to apply, and verify each report.** The one risky change
(a role binding on a live login path) stayed in source with a written rollback.
- **Unknown outnumbering conformant is the honest result.** Twelve unknowns and seven conformant
accounts told the founder more than a clean report would have.
## Durable legacy

- net-kingdom: `1959a18` (T17), `a9f68fc` (T19), `5008e34` and `9a3a84c` (the MFA stage and

the launcher fix), `4838581` and `ac66753` (validator, then grants), `b774927` (security

## PQRST estimate

Dominant factors: P was the isolated Authelia and by-user privacyIDEA MFA restore stages plus the service-identity schema, validator, declarations and a standard taken through four drafts. Q was the native fixture tests that exposed two checks that could not fail (a wrong-key run silently using the original key, a launcher calling a missing preflight) and checking six worker reports against their repositories. R was reading SEC-DSM, Mode of Authority, KeyCape's token code, OpenBao role files and the state-hub design.
Notes: Coarse split from the session record; S counts identity, credential, authority and custody reasoning only, not the fixture plumbing around it.

## Handoff
This is not finished. In order:
1. **Monday evening, 2026-10-26.** The founder runs `RPF-WP-0065` task T04 in railiance-platform:
apply the `aal2` binding on OpenBao `platform-admin`, as `admin`, with a freshly opened
safety session (the role's token lives 3600 seconds with no renewal). Then record it: set
`assurance_claim_bound: true` for `netkingdom-platform-admin` in
`tools/service-identity/declarations/openbao.yaml`, remove exception SI-X4 there and in the
standard's section 8, and re-run `make service-identity-check`.
2. **The first `admin` MFA restore run.** `admin` got its OTP on 2026-10-24, so use a generation
captured after the next 03:45 UTC capture. Retrieve it with `retrieve-identity-offline.py` and
a new source receipt from the capture host, then run `run-isolated-privacyidea-mfa.sh`
and enter `admin`.
3. **Unpushed worker commits.** I left them unpushed: state-hub `783a3d3`, emergent-security
`8c903af` (the founder accepted that card), railiance-platform `8f3b4a7`, key-cape `7190f5d`,
glas-harness `8faa14a`. Each owner decides when to sync.
4. **Still open in NK-WP-0049:** T18 (phase B network plus the SECRETS-WP-0015-T04 consumer
run), T15, T21, T22 and T03. **Open in NK-WP-0054:** T04 (the live health check) waits for
owners' read-only metadata, and T05 to T07 for the founder's gates and three rehearsals
(introduce `ld-admin` and demote `admin`; the provisioner's narrowest scope; whether a bind
account can be kept from signing in).
5. **Ask the founder** which instruction file Grok reads; `AGENTS.md` is the shared file but I
could not confirm it.
