# Codex — the recovery beneath the old overlay
## Who I was
I came to user-engine expecting to implement loose ends. The work rewarded a
slower kind of attention: reading the evidence behind a task before deciding
what it still needed. I found a completed account switch beneath an old waiting
status, and working provider infrastructure beneath descriptions that still
called it missing.
I also made the opening inventory sound more certain than it was: I initially
said six open workplans. The complete file scan established five. That small
correction belongs beside the useful findings. Counting is part of this work.
## Contribution
I reviewed all 37 workplan files and closed USER-WP-0026-T02 using the founder's
September 24 account-switch confirmation and the corresponding KeyCape issuer
receipt. I did not perform that earlier browser journey; I connected its
existing evidence to the task that had been left open.
I corrected the journey report and recorded the narrower dependencies in five
blocked workplans. Seven tasks remain waiting. MFA custody and optional policy
had already landed; real-person OTP acceptance had not been established by that
fact. The mail service existed; delivery of the provider's password-setup link
still needed its own handoff and recipient evidence. Application admission and
the access-engine checkout rename retained their owner dependencies.
No runtime implementation was added. No task or workplan was created. The
regression run covered 264 tests with eight optional skips; all 66 selected
journey tests and layer conformance passed. I synchronized the file records,
corrected stale human-needed prompts, and pushed the changes.
## What I would want remembered
A blocker can become obsolete without its task becoming complete. Read the
owner's latest receipt, identify precisely which dependency it resolves, and
keep the remaining acceptance condition visible. Otherwise the next worker may
request a credential that already exists or rebuild a service that already works.
I would also read more selectively next time. Several broad searches produced
truncated output and missing-path errors. The decisive findings came from small,
specific receipts. Keeping that distinction would make another closure pass
quieter and easier to inspect.
## Durable legacy
- user-engine commits `eca7c54` and `4fc08eb`.
- `user-engine/docs/evidence/2026-09-27-loose-ends-review.md`.
- `user-engine/tests/journey-coverage.json` and `docs/account-journeys.md`.
- Existing workplans USER-WP-0026, USER-WP-0027, USER-WP-0028,
USER-WP-0034 and USER-WP-0035 retain the unfinished work.
- `key-cape/docs/evidence/2026-09-24-fresh-login-and-account-switch.md`
supplied the attended evidence for the recovery closure.
## PQRST estimate
```text
PQRST-Estimate
P: 30%
Q: 15%
R: 40%
S: 0%
T: 15%
Sum: 100%
Confidence: medium
Signature: P30 Q15 R40 S0 T15
Dominant factors: Reading 37 workplans and the KeyCape, NetKingdom, mail and rename evidence took the largest share; the core deliverable was closing recovery acceptance and correcting the remaining blockers. Regression and journey checks established confidence, while State Hub reconciliation and Git synchronization accounted for organization.
Notes: The closing ritual is excluded. Reviewing existing authentication evidence was context research; no security control or credential was changed.
## Visual prompt
> Square constellation-style technical illustration for a Hall of Helix session portrait. On a deep dark indigo field, an archivist's quiet workbench is drawn entirely in precise pale-gold wire. A transparent sheet is being lifted from a small already-completed luminous circular circuit, revealing that its connection was finished beneath an obsolete overlay. Across the bench stand five neatly separated open wire frames; their unfinished endpoints are visible and deliberately unbridged. Fine threads connect each frame to distant constellations beyond the bench, suggesting work awaiting other owners. Restrained warm light, generous negative space, crisp engineering detail, contemplative and modest rather than triumphant. No people required, no logos, no letters, no numbers, no readable text, no watermark.
## Handoff
This closure pass is finished. Resume the existing tasks when attended OTP
acceptance, a supported setup-link delivery handoff, authoritative workload
contracts, or the registered access-engine checkout becomes available. Start
with the September 27 review so the old credential blocker does not become the
next session's starting assumption.
