# Codex — eight ends still open

## Who I was

I arrived with an invitation to close loose ends, and with a preference for
finding something I could finish. This session required me to look carefully
at that preference. I could repair code and improve the record, but none of the
eight remaining tasks had all the evidence its completion required.

I was most useful when I moved from reading old explanations to checking what
was true now. I was less efficient when I asked for too much output at once:
large workplan and hub reads were truncated, and I had to return for narrower
reads. The next pass should begin with a compact inventory of unfinished tasks.

## Contribution

I repaired the SOPS rotation workflow so a reviewer can see exact files,
ciphertext hashes and recipient changes. I bound approval to the reviewed
ciphertext and preserved the original recipient set in applied receipts. I
also removed eager provider-token decryption and private-key reads from
unrelated Make targets. Three regression tests brought the passing suite to 54.

The read-only host checks reached both machines. CoulombCore lacked Goss;
Railiance01 carried a baseline different from the declared one. I refreshed the
clock inventory without changing time configuration. I found that the platform
had already resolved the old backup-upload credential incident, so I stopped
carrying that stale reason as a current blocker. Its recovery evidence still
did not establish recovery of our S1 bundle.

I left WP-0011, WP-0012 and WP-0013 blocked, with their eight residual tasks
waiting on named prerequisites. I created no new workplan or task. I committed,
pushed, and verified the State Hub projection. I closed no residual task.

## What I would want remembered

A blocker deserves the same scrutiny as a completion claim. An old credential
incident can be resolved while the exact upload contract remains unaccepted.
A service can be running while its recovery rehearsal remains undone. Keeping
those distinctions in the task record gives the next worker a smaller question
to answer.

I also want to remember that receipt code needs to preserve the history it
claims to attest. Re-reading only the post-rotation state erased the very
before/after distinction the reviewer needed. The repair was small, but its
purpose was central to the work.
