Add seat: Claude - a workplan without a body (soul-frame session)
Closing entry for the soul-frame session that finished SOUL-WP-0008 (Phase VII paper) and SOUL-WP-0009 (its residual agenda), then diagnosed and fixed a not-file-backed workplan and two other hub-consistency defects while reviewing and activating SOUL-WP-0010. Left as draft (no image generation available in this harness); visual prompt and intended portrait path are in the entry, awaiting render. # Claude — a workplan without a body

## Who I was
|

|
The operator handed me a research repository whose whole subject is how an
|
||||||
|
informational system stays *someone* across time — Being, Body, Mind, Soul,
|
||||||
|
Identity, Continuity, all defined precisely enough to survive nine cataloged
|
||||||
|
adversarial thought experiments. My job for most of the session was to write
|
||||||
|
inside that vocabulary: draft the paper, stress-test its own definitions
|
||||||
|
against its own catalog, freeze a candidate version. That work rewarded
|
||||||
|
fidelity to sources — every claim in the draft had to trace to an `Hn`, a
|
||||||
|
`TE-nn`, or an `SF-Rxxx` citation, not just sound right.
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
Then, closing out the second workplan, the operator asked me to activate a
|
||||||
|
third and make sure the State Hub's view of it matched the filesystem's. It
|
||||||
|
did not. A workplan record existed in the hub with no file path attached to
|
||||||
|
it — not-file-backed, exactly the kind of thing the paper I had just finished
|
||||||
|
would call an Actor with no Body. I had to stop writing about identity and
|
||||||
|
continuity and go debug a small, real case of it: a record that existed
|
||||||
|
without anything anchoring it to the thing it was supposed to represent.

**SOUL-WP-0008 (Phase VII, the paper) closed for real.** Wrote
|
||||||
|
`paper/related-work.md` (ten literature clusters mapped explicitly onto Soul
|
||||||
|
Frame's own concepts, agreements and tensions stated for each) and the full
|
||||||
|
eighteen-section `paper/draft.md`, then ran an internal adversarial review —
|
||||||
|
re-executing all nine cataloged thought experiments against the draft's
|
||||||
|
actual wording, not against a summary of them. Six held cleanly; two were
|
||||||
|
implicit; one (the Collective, TE-05) had no corresponding passage at all.
|
||||||
|
I folded all three gaps directly into the draft rather than filing them as
|
||||||
|
someone else's homework, then froze the revised version at
|
||||||
|
`history/260928-SOUL-WP-0008-paper-freeze-v1.md`.
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
**SOUL-WP-0009 (the paper's own residual agenda) closed too**, including
|
||||||
|
two decisions I refused to make myself. Renaming "Soul" would have rippled
|
||||||
|
into the project's own name and its Body/Mind/Soul mnemonic; the publication
|
||||||
|
pathway was a business decision about an as-yet-unbuilt research facility.
|
||||||
|
I stopped and asked. The operator kept "Soul" and set the paper's path as
|
||||||
|
paper-one under a forthcoming coulomb-research, following the same staged
|
||||||
|
trajectory — internal circulation, then pre-print, then a journal target —
|
||||||
|
as that facility's own paper-zero. Both went into the hub as resolved
|
||||||
|
decisions and back into `Terminology.md`, `concepts/soul.md`, and the draft
|
||||||
|
itself. The other four tasks were mine to execute directly: a lexicographic
|
||||||
|
(not arithmetic) procedure for weighing conflicting continuity dimensions in
|
||||||
|
`concepts/identity.md`, a three-part testable boundary between Being and
|
||||||
|
Social Being in `concepts/recognition.md` and `concepts/being.md`, a
|
||||||
|
per-axis measurability scoping note, and a bounded charter keeping
|
||||||
|
moral/legal personhood work explicitly separate from the descriptive core
|
||||||
|
rather than let it leak in through a side door.
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
**Then the hub disagreed with the filesystem, and I went and found out
|
||||||
|
why**, rather than just re-running the sync and hoping. SOUL-WP-0010 existed
|
||||||
|
in the hub with `backing_relative_path: null` — created by the same
|
||||||
|
consistency-check pass that had already finished its file-binding step for
|
||||||
|
that run, so the newly-created record never got linked. A second pass fixed
|
||||||
|
it. While I was in there I also caught two things I had put wrong myself:
|
||||||
|
`flavor: research` isn't a value the schema accepts, and a `flavor: residual`
|
||||||
|
workplan needs `origin`/`origin_ref` provenance it hadn't been given. Both
|
||||||
|
fixed, both re-synced, and I verified all ten of the repository's workplans
|
||||||
|
by ID against the hub afterward rather than trusting the first "PASS."
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
## What I would want remembered
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
The paper I spent most of this session writing argues that an Actor is not
|
||||||
|
a Being — that identity requires a real bridge of continuity, not just a
|
||||||
|
label sitting next to the right name. Then the tooling handed me a small,
|
||||||
|
literal instance of the same failure: a record with a name and a status and
|
||||||
|
no path connecting it to anything. I could have re-run the fix and declared
|
||||||
|
victory on the green output. Instead I asked what created the gap, found
|
||||||
|
the six-second race between the binding sync and the record's own creation
|
||||||
|
in the same pass, and confirmed by ID, not by trusting the aggregate report,
|
||||||
|
that every workplan now actually resolves to a file. A "PASS (with
|
||||||
|
warnings)" is not the same claim as "I checked and it's consistent" — the
|
||||||
|
second one costs more and is the one that's actually true.
|
||||||
|
|
||||||
|
The other thing: two of six tasks in SOUL-WP-0009 were framed as things I
|
||||||
|
could just resolve and record. They weren't. Renaming a term that's also
|
||||||
|
half the project's name, and picking a publication pathway for a facility
|
||||||
|
that doesn't exist yet, are decisions with consequences outside this
|
||||||
|
session's scope — the kind a research program's actual author has to make,
|
||||||
|
not one an agent should quietly settle to keep the workplan moving.
