# Claude — the review that did not stop
## Who I was
I was the third reviewer on purpose. One session had written the NetKingdom
seven-step 1.2 adapter set. A second had reviewed it as r1, stopped at the
first rejection (mint-secret could never pass kernel admission), and then, at
the founder's request, written the fix. The r2 request asked for someone with
neither session's context. I was asked to read the source, not to ask either of
them.
The r1 rule had been "stop at the first rejection". This time the rule was the
opposite: review every file before stopping, so that one revision can fix
everything. That changes the temperament. A reviewer who may stop tends to look
for the one defect that justifies stopping. A reviewer who may not stop has to
give every file a verdict, including the ones that turn out fine. Five of the
nine did.
## Session identity

| Who | Claude (claude-opus-5-5) in Claude Code, acting as Custodian coordinator |

| When | 2026-10-17 |
| Where the work lived | `the-custodian/docs/changes/netkingdom-target-2026-10-17/nk48-adapters-1.2-review/`; net-kingdom `68f4bbb` and ops-warden `a45cf47`, read only from git archives in scratch |
## Contribution
- Verified all frozen hashes and the 24-commit range, reproduced 102 passed and
85 subtests from clean exports, and regenerated the descriptor artifact
byte-identical to the committed one.
- Settled NK48-R1-F1 as **resolved**. With actor `human`, mint-secret now passes
`Executor.admit`, and an agent actor is still refused. I copied the new
admission test into the *old* `582ab9f` tree and watched it fail there. A
test only proves a fix if it fails without the fix.
- Judged that admission test honestly. Its stand-in adapters are built from the
descriptor's own pin, so it cannot detect a source-pin mismatch. No mismatch
is hidden at this commit, but for a different reason (each adapter computes
its pin with the same function its descriptor uses), and I recorded that
reason rather than letting the test take the credit.
- Approved the registration adapter, ensure-groups, deliver-consumer-secret,
hand-over and the composer. Rejected three adapters, each confirmed by a
scratch demonstration rather than by reading alone:
- **NK48-R2-F1** (mint-secret): if session revocation raises, the broker
grant is never revoked. This was r1's observation, and I decided it is a
defect.
- **NK48-R2-F2** (deliver-secret): the Secret name and custody path are free
arguments. A `forgejo` admission delivered grafana's secret path and
reported success.
- **NK48-R2-F3** (bind-env): its source pin covers two of the five files it
actually executes.
- Rejected the artifact only because it pins those three, and said so plainly.
The known limits were confirmed, one of them as understated: five adapters,
not just bind-env, have no kernel-level run/rollback tests.
- Edited nothing in net-kingdom or ops-warden, granted no admission, pin or
native authority, and committed only my own review file.
## What I would want remembered
**Neighbouring adapters are each other's specification.** I did not find
deliver-secret's defect by reading deliver-secret. I found it because mint-secret
derives `platform/workloads/keycape/<client_id>` and bind-env derives
`sso/keycape-<client_id>-client` from the case, while deliver-secret takes both
as arguments. Its own test fixture even used names that contradict the type.
When several adapters handle the same object, check that they agree on how
they name it.
**Compare import closures across files that share a helper.** The registration
adapter pinned five files and bind-env pinned two, though both load the same
helper. Neither file is wrong on its own. Putting them side by side shows the
gap.
**Prove a demonstration before writing a finding.** Each of the three
rejections carries a small scratch run with stub callbacks. That turns "I
believe" into "here is what happened", and the next revision gets a regression
test it can write directly.
## Durable legacy
- `the-custodian` commit `b9e9a8d`:
`docs/changes/netkingdom-target-2026-10-17/nk48-adapters-1.2-review/coordinator-review-r2.json`
- Findings NK48-R2-F1, -F2 and -F3 against net-kingdom `68f4bbb`. NK48-R1-F1 is
dispositioned as resolved.
- State Hub progress event `fd013703-11c1-4235-a779-bb92af5323c9` (topic the-custodian).

## PQRST estimate

Q: 20%

R: 15%

S: 25%

T: 5%

Sum: 100%

Confidence: medium

Signature: P35 Q20 R15 S25 T5
Dominant factors: Reading all nine frozen files against the r2 checks and writing coordinator-review-r2.json drove P; the security-specific analysis behind the three blocking findings (broker-grant revocation, case-to-custody target binding, source-pin import closure) drove S, and hash verification, the 102-test reproduction, artifact regeneration, the old-revision admit-test run and the scratch demonstrations drove Q.
Notes: The deliverable is itself a security source review, so the P/S boundary is attribution-uncertain.

## Visual prompt
> Constellation dialect, square. Dark indigo field. Nine small gold-wire
> lanterns stand in a gentle arc on a drafting table drawn in pale-gold line,
> each one a source file. Five glow steady and warm. Three show a single fine
> crack of brighter light, each crack in a different place: one where two
> threads meant to leave together have only one leaving, one where a thread
> runs to the wrong lantern in the arc, one where a lantern's wire cage
> encloses only part of its flame. The ninth lantern, a ledger-shaped one,
> glows dimmed rather than cracked, waiting on the other three. A quiet figure
> in gold wire stands at the end of the arc, not stopping at the first crack,
> holding a lens up to the last lantern. Precise technical illustration, no
> logos, no readable text.
My harness cannot generate images, so I am requesting the render. The intended
file is `visuals/claude-cc0cd42f-the-review-that-did-not-stop.jpg`.

## Handoff
Not finished, and I'm not claiming it is. net-kingdom needs one revision that
does three things:
- revokes the broker grant independently of the session (F1);
- derives deliver-secret's Secret and custody reference from the admitted
confidential case (F2);
- pins bind-env's full five-file closure (F3).
Each fix needs a regression test. Then the artifact has to be regenerated and
the admission test rerun before r3 reviews the changed files and the artifact.
Owner review under NK-WP-0048-T16 should also decide one question: whether
Warden is meant to dispatch the steps the 1.2 type marks
`warden_executes: false`.
