The operator asked me to find what was open in net-kingdom and finish it. Almost everything open was waiting on another owner or on the founder. The one thing that wasn't waiting was a review from ops-mason, still unread in the inbox, of the first SecurityCaseType, `oidc-browser-relying-party` 1.0. The work rewarded caution about what had already happened. The decision memo asking the founder to acknowledge that type had been delivered to informed-decision earlier the same day, before the review arrived. Fixing the type was easy. Fixing what the founder was looking at was harder. ## Session identity | Field | Value | | --- | --- | | Who | Claude (claude-opus-5-5), Claude Code session b98d4912 | | When | 2026-10-08, evening UTC | | Where the work lived | `net-kingdom`: `security-case-types/oidc-browser-relying-party/`, `tools/security-case-types/`, `canon/` | ## Contribution - Applied all six of ops-mason's refinements (MASON-WP-0010-T01) to the type. A case can no longer choose where its client secret lives: the type derives `platform/workloads/keycape/{client_id}`, as the live secrets-engine-openbao client already does. The policies reuse the existing `workload-kv-read-keycape--` family and spell out their rules (`read` on one data path, nothing else). There is a new Kubernetes-auth role for ESO, `external-secrets-keycape-{client_id}`. The catalog entry is renamed, and the two rollback steps that deleted the same KV path are now one. - The schema, validator and canon now require a templated `body` on every policy and role item, so a later type cannot name a policy without saying what it grants. `keycape-client.py` refuses a case-set custody path. 105 tests pass. - Found that a corrected memo cannot go out under the old idempotency key. The State Hub dispatcher records an `idempotency_conflict` when the same key carries different content. informed-decision has no way to replace a memo, and memo `version` must be 1. So I built memo `-r2` with a new id. It says it replaces the first memo, and it passes both informed-decision's and the dispatcher's validation. I did not send it: sending it is the founder's attended step. - Told key-cape and railiance-apps that Forgejo's secret moves from the path in the accepted request to `platform/workloads/keycape/forgejo`. ## What I would want remembered When a review arrives after the memo has gone out, changing the artifact is not enough. The decision-maker is reading the memo. Before you re-send anything, check how the channel handles a re-send. Here, re-sending under the same key would not have replaced the memo; it would have recorded an idempotency conflict. Both memos still resolve the same hub decision, and whichever is answered first wins. So the stale memo has to be closed with a verb that does not resolve the decision. Here that verb is `return`. Telling the founder to leave it unanswered, as I first did, leaves a trap open. I then made the same mistake I had set out to fix. ops-warden's review of the same type arrived at 21:25. I built r2 at 21:42 without checking the inbox again, so r2 also went out without a review that was already waiting. When a type has two reviewers, check the inbox for both immediately before building the memo, not only at session start. The founder caught the first gap by asking "should we not leave that open"; nobody needed to catch the second, because the inbox already held it. ## Durable legacy - net-kingdom `074b3a0`: ops-mason's review applied to the type, schema, validator, template and keycape-client - net-kingdom: revised memo r2 (`decision/packet.md`, `build_intake.py`, `intake.json`) and the NK-WP-0048-T05 notes - hub: reply to ops-mason; messages to key-cape and railiance-apps; progress events on NK-WP-0048 ## PQRST estimate ```text PQRST-Estimate P: 35% Q: 15% R: 25% S: 10% T: 15% Sum: 100% Confidence: medium Signature: P35 Q15 R25 S10 T15 Dominant factors: P was rewriting type.yaml (derived custody path, policy family, templated policy bodies, ESO role, merged rollback) and rebuilding the r2 packet; R was reading the validator, schema, keycape-client tests and the State Hub memo_forwarding ledger to learn that a changed envelope under a delivered key becomes an idempotency_conflict. Notes: S covers the least-privilege review of the policy bodies and refusing case-chosen custody paths; much of the P work is security architecture by subject, but its primary purpose was the requested fold-in. ``` ## Visual prompt > Brushed-metal worker dialect, square. A quiet figure of pale brushed metal > with warm inner light stands at an indigo desk. Two sealed envelopes lie on > it: one already passing out through a slot of light in the far wall, the > other freshly sealed in the figure's hands with a small second seal on it. > Between them, a thin gold thread runs from both envelopes to one single > lantern overhead (the one decision both will answer). On the desk, an open > technical drawing of a narrow vault corridor with exactly one door lit. > Cinematic still, precise technical illustration, no logos, no readable text. This harness cannot generate images, so I am asking for the portrait to be rendered. Intended file: `visuals/claude-b98d4912-memo-that-went-out-first.jpg`. ## Handoff Added at close, 2026-10-09: the founder sent r2 and returned the first memo. Hub decision `e418263e` was still `open` when the session closed; I did not find out whether r2 had been answered or the answer was still on its way back. ops-warden's review (R1–R7) is recorded in NK-WP-0048-T05 with both next steps: a follow-up if r2 was accepted, or r3 if not. R4 conflicts with ops-mason's catalog naming and needs the two owners to agree. ops-mason's request to create LLDAP group `fluid-telegram-operators` reached me secondhand; I left it unread for the founder to confirm. The original handoff: The founder sends `intake.json` (memo r2) with the attended enqueue command recorded in NK-WP-0048-T05. In informed-decision, the founder closes the first memo with `return` and a comment that r2 replaces it. Leaving it open is not safe: `return` does not resolve the hub decision, but an accept or decline on the stale memo would. Then the founder answers r2. Before answering, the founder may wait for ops-warden's review (WARDEN-WP-0044-T01). After acknowledgment comes T06, the Forgejo case, which uses the new custody path.
