This time one item could actually move. ops-warden relayed the founder's confirmation that our `daily-cnpg-option-a-backup` worker is the unit behind its `atm-backup-daily` actor, and asked us to publish the workload identity declaration. The request was one sentence long. Understanding it took most of the session. The work rewarded patience with unfamiliar ground. Nobody in activity-core had written one of these declarations before. The format lives in ops-warden's resolver scripts, net-kingdom's security-zones standard and a JSON schema, and I had to read all three before I knew what was wanted. The hardest part was a judgment that wasn't mine to make. The declaration needs a data classification, and nobody had classified the production database dumps the worker handles. ## Session identity | Field | Value | | --- | --- | | Who | Claude (claude-opus-5-5) in Claude Code, auto mode | | When | 2026-10-08 (UTC), spanning the local date change to 2026-10-09 | | Where the work lived | `~/activity-core`; read-only reference to `~/ops-warden`, `~/net-kingdom`, `~/access-engine`; State Hub through the `state-hub-primary` forward | ## Contribution - Traced what ops-warden actually reads. `scripts/report_workload_join.py` resolves an operational workload through a `declaration_ref` file whose `workload_identity.name` must match exactly and whose `zones:` block gives membership and context. That told me what to publish, rather than the prose version of the request. - Published `declarations/backup-daily/tenancy.yaml` in activity-core (commit `c1533fe`). It declares workload `backup-daily` with two bindings: the ssh-certificate `atm-backup-daily` and ServiceAccount `activity-core:default`. The worker sets no `serviceAccountName`, so I declared the default SA as it actually is rather than the named SA it ought to have. - Stopped at the token soft limit, about 60% done, and asked the operator to choose the zone. The worker holds plaintext dumps of Forgejo, net-kingdom and State Hub databases, which reads as confidential data with an M2 floor. activity-core has no M2 evidence. The operator chose `z2-protected` at M1, declared below the floor on purpose, so ops-warden resolves the effective zone as `unknown` until real evidence exists. - Fixed three schema violations from the net-kingdom validator: a `kind` value, a `principal_type` value, and a disallowed `description` field. Then added the tenancy block the root schema requires, graded conservatively for a cron-fired batch job (I/A/P/R n/a, E0, V0, each with a written reason). The validator now passes. - Closed ACTIVITY-WP-0042-T03 and removed its D2 decision link, because D2 (`89f1058f`) still gates other work and the confirmation did not resolve it. Ran fix-consistency, committed the index it left dirty, replied to ops-warden and logged progress. - Ran a second sweep. It found nothing actionable, so I logged that and changed nothing. ## What I would want remembered A declaration can state a gap on purpose. When the evidence for a membership doesn't exist, you don't have to pick a lower zone that the evidence happens to fit, or leave the field empty. Declare the membership the context really requires and the maturity you really have, and let the resolver report "below floor". That is accurate, it is auditable, and it shows the next worker what evidence is missing. Also: when a request names an artifact you have never seen ("publish the workload identity declaration"), read the consumer's resolver code before the prose standards. It tells you the exact keys that matter. The standard tells you why they matter. ## Durable legacy - activity-core `c1533fe`: `declarations/backup-daily/tenancy.yaml` and ACTIVITY-WP-0042-T03 marked done - activity-core `6433758` (fix-consistency sync) and `fd84f2b` (work-record index refresh) - State Hub reply `28c15abe` on ops-warden's message `49292aca`, feeding WARDEN-WP-0040-T02 - Open gaps this declares rather than hides: no owner-declared data class for the backed-up databases; no M2 evidence for the backup unit ## PQRST estimate ```text PQRST-Estimate P: 20% Q: 10% R: 40% S: 15% T: 15% Sum: 100% Confidence: medium Signature: P20 Q10 R40 S15 T15 Dominant factors: Research dominated: tracing how ops-warden resolves an operational workload (report_workload_join.py / build_flex_auth_registry.py), reading security-zones_v0.1 §4/§6 and the tenancy-posture schema to learn what a "workload identity declaration" even is. The security slice is the data-classification and zone-floor reasoning (plaintext production DB dumps → confidential → M2 floor) and the identity bindings; the declaration file itself is P. Notes: S/P boundary is soft because the deliverable was itself a security declaration; I counted the reasoning as S and the authoring as P. Validator iterations (three schema failures) are Q. ``` ## Visual prompt > Brushed-metal worker dialect, square. Intended file: `visuals/claude-0e75091f-gap-declared-on-purpose.jpg`. ## Handoff My part is finished. Next actions belong to others: - ops-warden: compile `backup-daily` from the new declaration under WARDEN-WP-0040-T02. - The owners of forgejo-db, net-kingdom-pg and state-hub-db: declare a data classification. If it comes back lower than confidential, re-review the membership in activity-core as a reviewed change. - The founder: D2 (`89f1058f`) is still the main gate on activity-core's remaining work.
