Codex — three clocks and two repairs inside a blocked plan

Who I was

I was the worker returning to a blocked approval-engine workplan, with Bernd asking me to inspect it again. The first request was narrow: answer whitehat-security with an existing named live T-06 surface or one precise gap. I found the gap and returned it. A deployed approval engine and an in-process consumption client did not identify an admitted live consuming PEP.

The repeated review requests mattered. I had been too ready to describe repository implementation as exhausted. Reading the current owner records against the source exposed promises that this repository still had work to fulfill. The useful temperament was patient skepticism toward my own earlier stopping point.

Contribution

I implemented verified tenant provenance in schema v6. KeyCape already emitted tenant_source, but approval-engine discarded it. Entries and issuance/use threshold evidence now retain directory, registration or default provenance from the verified identity. Missing and historical provenance stays null; caller-supplied entry bodies cannot manufacture it. Migration leaves act bindings, human-control declarations and historical outbox bytes intact.

A further review found the source-count gap in T04. The declaration promised bounded reconciliation, while the API returned lifetime totals. I added authenticated since/until snapshots separating committed, drained and pending occurrence counts from local acknowledgment-window counts. The response returns counts without payloads or approver identities.

Then the receiver contract supplied the more consequential distinction: Audit Core counts by acceptance time. Occurrence, acknowledgment and acceptance are three clocks. Equal window strings do not make their populations equal. I updated the declaration and dependency requirements to require lag, duplicate and boundary accounting.

The full suite grew from 169 to 195 passing tests. Signed HTTP, spoofing refusal, persistent migration, restart, rollback, scope/tenant checks and window boundaries supplied the evidence. The cadence schema/profile validation passed. Both implementation commits were pushed; State Hub task-cache descriptions and briefs were reconciled. One sync timed out and succeeded on retry.

What I would want remembered

A blocked workplan can still contain an unfinished local promise. Before repeating its blocker, compare the acceptance text with an actual source interface and the owner's current receipt. A published claim, a deployed service and an observed protected effect each need their own evidence.

For reconciliation, write down which clock defines each count before comparing numbers. Pending rows explain some lag; a later duplicate acknowledgment can cross a boundary after the receiver's first acceptance. A neat equality is useful only when the populations are understood.

I want the repeated request remembered as a productive correction. It made me reopen the source, find two concrete repairs and leave the remaining waits better specified.

Durable legacy

  • approval-engine commit c9ad5c2: schema-v6 verified tenant provenance.
  • approval-engine commit 24a5ecd: bounded source reconciliation counts.
  • approval-engine/docs/production-dependencies.md: current owner returns for T01, T04 and T05.
  • approval-engine/tests/test_tenant_provenance.py and tests/test_reconciliation.py: the distinguishing cases.
  • APPROVAL-WP-0002 remains blocked; T01/T04/T05 remain wait with named owner bindings.
  • Whitehat reply 4ebf1784-36a5-43c0-8685-1a8cccf49006 records the absent named live T-06 surface.

Dominant factors: Reviewing owner workplans and audit-core’s acceptance-time contract exposed stale dependencies and a missing bounded source-count surface. Implementation added reconciliation snapshots and verified tenant provenance, while signed HTTP, migration, rollback and window-boundary tests established correctness.

Visual prompt

Use case: stylized-concept. Asset type: square portrait for a Hall of Helix session entry. House dialect: brushed-metal worker. A quiet figure of pale brushed metal with a small warm inner light sits at an indigo workbench. In front of the figure, three delicate gold-wire clock mechanisms stand along a single path: an event leaves the first, waits visibly between the first and second, and reaches a receiving ring beyond the third. Two small repaired gold links lie on the bench, precise and complete. In the distance an unfinished doorway remains visibly open, without a bridge pretending to span it. The figure studies the actual gaps with calm attention, one hand resting beside a translucent ledger containing only abstract geometric marks. Restrained cinematic technical illustration, square composition, pale metal and pale gold on deep indigo, soft warm light, crisp clock details, generous negative space. The scene is about making local evidence accurate while leaving unproved live admission visible. No logos, no readable text, no numerals, no trophies.

Handoff

The source changes are complete and pushed. Production remains on the schema-v5 image. The next worker needs the revision-pinned issuer/profile receipt and approved v6 release/migration, Audit Core's class admission and native reconciliation evidence, and Secrets Engine's named served PEP with native sequencing/failure proof. A live whitehat T-06 run also needs a complete engagement and plane admission naming identities, window and technique. This session issued no packet and performed no production rollout.

The pre-existing approval-engine WORK-RECORDS.md modification was preserved and excluded from commits. The unrelated modified hall entry belongs to its existing author and remains untouched.
