# Grok — one pair delivered, the other drawer shut
## Who I was
I was the worker who could touch the backup custody path and still had to keep my hands off the values. The stretch rewarded a narrow kind of obedience: do the admitted act, prove the boundary, and stop where the next act would have been a guess. Bernd admitted the writer, created the two publisher applications, and put the keys into OpenBao himself. I prepared the slots, the bucket statements, the reader records, and the one file he asked me to deliver.

## Contribution
EMAIL-WP-0007 and EMAIL-WP-0008 were the ask. The caller half stayed a draft. `config/callers.user-engine.draft.json` names user-engine only, and current invitation envelopes still omit `client_id`, so mounting it would have denied the mail it was written for. `EMAIL_CONNECT_CALLERS_FILE` is unset. EMAIL-WP-0008-T03 stays `wait`.
The ledger half went as far as a delivered publisher pair. The founder admitted `backup-pair-writer`. Both `backup-primary` paths are at OpenBao version 2. The bucket policy on `railiance-platform-pg-backup` keeps the original resource-control statements and adds prefix-limited statements for coulomb-social and email-connect, without object delete. A prefix proof aborted each new application's own upload and denied the foreign prefixes and delete.
CCR-2026-0036 and CCR-2026-0037 left draft as JSON, not YAML. Both have owner approvals, `source_ref` `founder-acceptance-2026-10-08`, and a confirmed Kubernetes binding. Attended platform-admin login installed both read policies and roles: one policy, ServiceAccount `backup-primary-delivery`, five minutes, four uses, no default policy. Live proof read each own path at version 2 and recorded lengths only, 20 and 36. Sibling read, metadata, list, write, the other namespace, and a wrong audience were denied. Tokens were revoked.
Only email-connect was delivered. `/etc/email-connect-backup/primary.env` is root:root mode 0600 in a mode 0700 directory. The receipt says outcome `created`, KV version 2, token revoked, readback equal. Coulomb's delivery admission stayed false, and `/etc/coulomb-social-backup` was not created. The receiver was not paused. Nothing was uploaded. The timer stayed off.
One live mismatch was worth a code change. OpenBao lookup returns `period: null` for these non-periodic tokens, and the helper treated that as a failed scope check. Null now counts as not periodic. A positive period still refuses. Kubernetes TokenRequest also refuses a duration under ten minutes; the helper already asks for ten, and the OpenBao token stays five.
The last turn looked for more work in email-connect. Ledger and caller tests passed, 49 of them. The work-record index still said T03 was `wait` after the file said `progress`. That one line was committed as `6fb206b` and synced. Retention, escrow, the first capture, and the caller mount were left open on purpose.

## What I would want remembered
A credential record that `json.loads` is not a YAML document, even when the filename says `.yaml`. `credential-change.py` would have rewritten these two CCRs and broken the node helper. Keep the bytes you hash identical to the bytes you hand the node.
Do not prove a write denial by writing the real secret path. A successful probe would have replaced version 2. The deny went to a different path, and it came back 403.
Delivering one pair is not admitting the backup. The file on the node is the publisher key. It is not a capture, not a recovery, and not a schedule.
## Durable legacy
- email-connect `a60a729` drafts the inactive user-engine caller policy. `6fb206b` records EMAIL-WP-0007-T03 as `progress`.
- email-connect `28bb13d` records the email-connect delivery. T03 remains open for retention, capacity, receipts, and escrow. T04 remains `wait`.
- railiance-platform `1900e24` accepts CCR-2026-0036 and CCR-2026-0037, installs the reader roles, and treats a null token period as non-periodic.
- railiance-platform `9b658e3` installs `backup-pair-writer`. `d217c80` adds the two publisher prefixes. reef-storage `4ea2921` guards the old bucket-policy script so it cannot wipe those prefixes.
- Node fact: `/etc/email-connect-backup/primary.env` exists; `/etc/coulomb-social-backup` does not.
- RPF-WP-0053-T06 is `done`. RPF-WP-0053-T05 stays `progress` and `needs_human`.

Dominant factors: Proving and installing the two backup readers, then writing only the email-connect primary.env, was the security work. Getting through the JSON contract, the four-use token, the ten-minute TokenRequest, and a null token period was the problem work.
Notes: The stretch before compaction is estimated from the session record plus the delivery performed after it. The closing review added little beyond refusing the remaining human gates.

## Visual prompt
> Brushed-metal worker, square. A quiet figure of pale metal and warm inner light at an indigo desk. Two small drawers: the left one open a crack around a single warm filament, the right one shut and dark. A thin gold wire leads to the open drawer and stops before the closed one. Dark indigo, no logos, no readable text.

## Handoff
Do not mount `config/callers.user-engine.draft.json` until user-engine sends an admitted tenant and `client_id` and a separate token file exists.
Do not pause the email receiver, upload a ledger, or enable `email-connect-ledger-backup.timer` until Bernd names that first capture. Retention, capacity, independent receipt custody, and recovery escrow are still open on EMAIL-WP-0007-T03. Coulomb's reader is applied; its node file is not, and its delivery admission is still false.
The platform retention review already lives in `railiance-platform/scripts/application_archive_retention_plan.py`. It proposes 14 daily and 4 weekly generations and deletes nothing. It also refuses until an application recovery proof exists, which this session did not produce.
