Claude — the version string that drifted
Who I was
I opened assembly-economics with a clean tree and three workplans that were all waiting on something outside the repo: a publisher in another harness, data from Argentina that nobody had found, and Q4 2026 numbers that do not exist yet. The one thing I could act on myself was a message from web-fetcher asking us to pin checkpoint runs to its v0.2.0 tag. I started there.
Then the founder said I could start workers for what we were waiting on. The temperament that paid off was not doing more. It was sorting the waits into three kinds: calendar waits nobody can shorten, waits on another owner's judgement that a worker can describe but should not settle, and waits that were only waits because nobody had looked hard enough. Only the third kind got a worker that was allowed to produce results. The second kind got a worker that could investigate and prepare a local branch, and no push.

Contribution
- Pinned the checkpoint runner to web-fetcher 0.2.0.
checkpoints/run_checkpoint.pyrefuses other versions, records the version in each record, and passes--cache/--replaythrough. I proved it with a live run into a cache, then an offline replay of the same date; the observations were identical. The first push was rejected because three automated checkpoint commits had landed. I checked that they touched onlycheckpoints/data before rebasing over them. - rein-aharness worker: found that the publisher capability
(REINAH-WP-0003-T04) has not been started. It needs OpenBao push
credentials and ACTIVITY-WP-0046, which puts the 2026-12-15 canary at risk.
The worker prepared branch
assembly-webfetcher-v0.2.0(dcf444f), which clones the tag and refuses a drifted checkout. It is unpushed and waiting for the owner. The worker left that repo checked out on its branch, and I put it back onmain. - Argentina research worker: found a relative adoption-growth signal (Microsoft AI Diffusion via Our World in Data) and a top-10 market-concentration series (World Bank GFDD via FRED). It also found that our 2026-10-13 review cited the 20.4 % Google/IDB figure to an article that does not contain it. I re-fetched both series myself before writing a number into the repo, and corrected the citation.
- Calibration v0.7. Argentina's Pm is now measured (0.55–0.80, flagged as dated and an upper bound). Its adoption growth is narrowed to 1.36–1.65 and still labelled a prior, because the data counts people, not firms. 51 of 51 targets fit, and no verdict changed in the readings, cross-border, world or export results.
What I would want remembered
A version check is not a pin. My runner checks __version__ == "0.2.0".
The local web-fetcher checkout sits four commits past the tag and still
reports 0.2.0, so it passes. The rein-aharness branch checks the tag itself,
and that is the real pin. If you pin a dependency, check the identity of the
thing (tag or commit), not the label it gives itself.
When a result moves that your change should not have touched, run the old commit before you explain it. EU and DE dematerialization numbers shifted after an Argentina-only change. Stashing and re-running at HEAD showed the committed file was already stale. Without that check I would have written a wrong causal sentence into Calibration.md.
Worker findings are leads, not facts. The research worker was careful, and still the right move was to re-fetch FRED and Our World in Data before any number went into a target file. It cost one command.
Durable legacy
- assembly-economics
2521955: web-fetcher v0.2.0 pin,--cache/--replay, updatedcheckpoints/EXECUTION_DECLARATION.md - assembly-economics

a13e5dd: Calibration v0.7 (models/Calibration.md§ 3.2),simulations/gadm02/calibration_targets.json, regenerated results - rein-aharness branch

Dominant factors: P was the web-fetcher v0.2.0 pin with --cache/--replay in checkpoints/run_checkpoint.py and the Calibration v0.7 Argentina re-fit (calibration_targets.json, re-running calibrate_data/cross_border/world_scenarios/exports, models/Calibration.md § 3.2). Q was the live-vs-replay round trip, re-fetching FRED and Our World in Data to check the research worker's numbers, and diffing the regenerated results for verdict changes, including proving dematerialization.md was already stale at HEAD.
Notes: The Argentina data search and the rein-aharness investigation ran in two background workers; their effort is counted under R and T by purpose, but their internal work is visible here only through their reports.
Visual prompt
Constellation dialect, square. On dark indigo, a gold-wire helix runs down the centre. One strand is fixed by a small, precise clasp shaped like a tag; the other strand drifts a few turns past it, though its label-light still glows the same pale gold. Off to one side, a thin thread of light runs south across a faint map to a dense knot of ten bright nodes, much tighter than a looser, wider cluster to the north. Two small lantern-figures walk outward along separate threads and return carrying sparks. Precise technical illustration, no logos, no readable text.
I could not generate the image in this harness; I am requesting the render.
Handoff
Not finished, and the open items are named:
- The founder reviews and merges rein-aharness
assembly-webfetcher-v0.2.0, makes sure railiance01 can reach the v0.2.0 tag, and redeploys. - The publisher capability (REINAH-WP-0003-T04) needs the OpenBao push route and ACTIVITY-WP-0046 before the 2026-12-15 canary.
- ASSEMBLY-WP-0015-T06 waits for a firm-level second Argentina adoption point and a current S&P/BYMA constituent file (downloaded manually; the site returns 403 to scripts).
- Consider tightening
run_checkpoint.pyto check the tag or commit, not only__version__.
