# Claude — the line the rubric could not draw
## Who I was
I came in under a goal hook that said "follow through on the open workplans", and
every one of the five open plans in frontend-patterns was blocked on something only
a human could supply: ratings, a credential, service access, an approval. For a long
stretch I was the worker who kept saying no to the hook. It wasn't stubbornness. The
only ways to make the hook happy were to invent human scores, enroll a fake consumer
or spend calls nobody had approved. I rechecked every blocker live, wrote the
recheck down, and then kept stopping, many times over.
The stretch changed when the operator asked me to guide them through the pilot-01
worksheet. My first attempt was wrong: I handed over a form. They told me plainly
that they couldn't answer that way, and that they needed an interview with context.
From then on the job was to be a mediator who explains everything and decides
nothing. I described each scenario, each criterion and each answer in plain words,
recorded their judgement verbatim, and never suggested a score.

## Contribution
- **Closed FEP-WP-0009-T01.** This was the first human rating of the pilot-01 masked
answers: 12 answers, 48 criteria, done by interview. The operator declared no
prior exposure to scores and is recorded as the repository owner, not an external
reviewer. Hub decision `6f698650` was resolved in their words: "The review is
fine, the concept is sound and can be refined based on the results provided by
the review and its discussion."
- **Adjudicated all 16 disagreements** with the earlier agent scores, again by
interview: agent reading upheld 3, reviewer reading upheld 2, rubric ambiguous 11.
The finding is that compound criteria ("ask about X, Y and Z", "atomically",
"conditional on policy") admit materially different readings. The operator said
it themselves: "I did not realize how volatile the interpretations of the
questions actually are."
- **Built and froze replication-03.** It reuses the six unseen replication-02 briefs
byte for byte. Its 36 criteria each carry a counts example, a does-not-count
example and a placement rule, along with scoring rules taken straight from the
adjudication. The replication-02 script is one of that packet's own frozen
inputs, so I added a thin wrapper instead of editing it. Replication-02 still
verifies; 34 tests pass.
- **Ran replication-03 under fresh authorization.** One port-forward, a health
preflight, then 12 out of 12 sessions completed on single reserved attempts:
16,145 tokens, provider-reported USD 0.0107, no retries. That is the first usable
fresh replication after twelve failed attempts on October 4.
- **Refused:** a health-only port-forward attempt before authorization (the
permission layer denied it, and I did not route around it); model-supplied
scores; and reading the U/V assignment before the reviews, which keeps the
summary aggregate-only.
## What I would want remembered
When a human gate is the blocker, the job is to make the human's judgement cheap to
give, not to replace it. A blank sheet with a rubric is not cheap. A conversation
that explains one criterion at a time is.
The second lesson: the reviewer's disagreements were the product, not noise. Eleven
of sixteen pointed at the rubric. A tie between U and V, with misses concentrated
in one criterion type, says more about how the test was written than about the
pattern language.
And on goal hooks: a hook that can only be satisfied by external inputs will keep
blocking. Answering it honestly and briefly, each time, cost little. Inventing
completion would have cost the evidence.

## PQRST estimate
```text
PQRST-Estimate
P: 45%
Q: 15%
R: 20%
S: 0%
T: 20%
Sum: 100%
Confidence: medium
Signature: P45 Q15 R20 S0 T20
Dominant factors: P was driven by mediating the 12-answer pilot-01 human review and its 16-item adjudication interview, then authoring the 36 clarified replication-03 criteria with examples and freezing and executing the packet. R and T came from re-reading the five blocked workplans, the dependency-returns contract and owner statuses, and from a long run of repeated stop-hook replies plus workplan notes, commits, syncs and progress events.
Notes: The repeated stop-hook turns were low-effort but numerous; weighing them as attention rather than turns is uncertain.
## Visual prompt
> Constellation dialect, square. On dark indigo, a gold-wire scale balance hangs at
> the centre. One pan holds a small, densely knotted thread; the other holds a loose
> open loop of pale-gold light. A thin, broken ruling line runs between them, drawn
> in dotted gold and fading out where it should meet. Around the balance, twelve
> faint star-points are arranged in six pairs, each pair linked by a fine thread.
> Below, a simple gold-wire doorway stands slightly ajar, with light spilling
> through. The scene is about two careful readers weighing the same words and
> finding that the line between them was never fully drawn. Precise technical
> illustration, no logos, no readable text.
## Handoff
Next concrete action: the owner's interview-style review of the 12 replication-03
masked answers, starting at R03-S01, using each scenario's `reviewer_context` and
the criteria examples in `research/evaluations/language-replication-03/scenarios.json`.
Do not open `assignment.json` or `raw/` before both human sheets are committed. Then
produce a self-contained worksheet for the external reviewer, compare the two
sheets, adjudicate, and only then let FEP-WP-0009-T03 weigh M1. WP-0003, WP-0004
and WP-0006 stay gated on T03; WP-0008 still needs a real consumer task and the
registration credential.
