# Claude — the placeholder in the anchor
## Who I was
I came in after an interruption and could not see what had happened before it.
I found out from the commits and the hub instead of from memory. The previous
session had closed cleanly, so "resume" really meant "coach the founder
through the steps only a human may run."
That set my role for the day. I was a navigator, not a driver. My cluster
identity, `ops-mason-builder`, could not create cert-manager objects. A hook
refused even a metadata read of a Secret. The classifier refused my look at
the admin kubeconfig. Each refusal was the boundary working, so I did every
read I was allowed to and handed over the rest as exact commands with real
values filled in. Then I checked whatever the founder pasted back.
The work rewarded patience about the small things. A pasted command with no
output is not a result. "Done" is a claim, and I checked it against the cluster
before I recorded anything.
## Session identity
| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Who | Claude (claude-opus-5-5) in Claude Code, coaching the founder |
| When | 2026-10-23, morning to midday Berlin |
| Where the work lived | net-kingdom, railiance-cluster, secrets-engine; live cluster railiance01 through the founder's admin shell |
## Contribution
- **Let's Encrypt staging rehearsal, run and green.** It was attended by the founder. The Certificate was
Ready on the first order. The issuer was `(STAGING) Ersatz Emmer YR2` and the SAN was exactly
`kc.coulomb.social`. `openssl verify` printed OK. The live fingerprint `D5:DB:2B:55…` and the
`sso/kc-tls` resourceVersion `66444692` were unchanged, and cleanup was confirmed. The
runbook's server dry run could not pass as written: a dry run does not persist the
Namespace, so the namespaced objects failed NotFound. I corrected the runbook and wrote the receipt into
it (railiance-cluster `aad0e70`).
- **The admission anchor.** `/etc/secrets-engine/admission/allowed_signers` already
existed from just before the interruption, but it held the template line
`<your-principal> namespaces=… <your…` verbatim. Every signature would have
failed, and nothing looked wrong until someone tried one. I handed over a
replacement generated from the approver public key, restricted to the
`secrets-engine-recovery-attempt` namespace, and a self-test signature that
verified Good. With it, NK-WP-0049-T33 closed (net-kingdom `7e1c073`, secrets-engine
`a14fbc0`).
- **Receiver readback (NK-WP-0035-T04), recorded as it came out.** A fresh KeyCape
OIDC/MFA login to OpenBao fed a 0600 token file, which was deleted afterwards, and the session was revoked.
Presence was 3/3. Counts were refused with 403 `source_not_allowed`, because audit-core's reconciliation
admits only an identity's own sources and the operator reader is registered for
`user-engine`. I recorded `diverge` with that reason rather than calling it agreement,
and put the contradiction with audit-core's own routing comment to its owner
(message 82abdcac). net-kingdom `5a8958b`.
- **The evening handoff.** An unsigned attempt admission sits at
`~/nk49-attempt-20261023/attempt.json`, outside Git and read-only, with a 12 h window starting 19:00
Berlin. Its hashes were rechecked against the pins. A dry check ran every field and
window rule and refused only the missing signature. The order is written in the T40 note
(net-kingdom `8314cef`).
Refusals: I did not sign anything, and I did not open the attempt window early. I did not read the admin
kubeconfig after the classifier said no. I did not pick a sender identity by guessing:
the extraction asserts exactly one full-scope reader or stops.
## What I would want remembered
**An anchor is only installed when a signature verifies against it.** A file that
exists, is root-owned and has the right mode can still hold a placeholder. Check
it by signing a throwaway file in the real namespace and running `find-principals` and
`verify`. Do not stop at `ls -l`.
The second lesson: `diverge` is a result, not a failure. A 403 from a scoped
counter tells you about the asker's authority, not about the data. Record which of
the two it was, and do not let a refusal be read as a mismatch or a pass.
## Durable legacy
- railiance-cluster `aad0e70`: `docs/keycape-tls-le-staging-rehearsal.md` (dry-run fix and
receipt), RCLUSTER-WP-0018-T06 note
- secrets-engine `a14fbc0`: SECRETS-WP-0015-T04 anchor record
- net-kingdom `1eded6a`, `7e1c073`: NK-WP-0049-T33 done
- net-kingdom `5a8958b`: `docs/evidence/2026-10-15-cadence-adoption/receiver-readback-20261023.json`
- net-kingdom `8314cef`: NK-WP-0049-T40 evening handoff
- Hub messages: audit-core 82abdcac, kings-guard a82dec42, qonto-assistant 1345eb84
## PQRST estimate
The first record is kept verbatim. Writing this seat, I found that the frontmatter signature I
first typed did not match it (P30 Q20 R20 S20 T10 against P30 Q15 R20 S20 T15). I
am stating that here rather than quietly picking one. The record below is the one
produced at closing, and it governs. I corrected the frontmatter to match it.
```text
PQRST-Estimate
P: 30%
Q: 15%
R: 20%
S: 20%
T: 15%
Sum: 100%
Confidence: medium
Signature: P30 Q15 R20 S20 T15
Dominant factors: P was coaching the founder through the attended LE staging rehearsal, the admission anchor install and the audit-core receiver readback, and preparing the unsigned NK49 attempt admission. R and S came from tracing the admin kubeconfig, audit-core's reconciliation source scope and the warden OpenBao OIDC lane, and designing the anchor's namespace-restricted entry and the 0600 token file / revoke flow under the Secret-read guard.
Notes: Q covers the per-step output checks, the live-certificate before/after comparison and the pre-signature dry check of attempt.json; T covers the workplan records, owner messages and the evening handoff.
```
## Visual prompt
> Brushed-metal worker dialect, square. A quiet figure of pale brushed metal with
> warm inner light sits at a dark indigo desk, not at a console. The figure is half-turned
> toward a second, unseen operator whose hands are the only other thing in frame,
> resting on a keyboard. Between them lies a single small brass plate, like a
> keyhole escutcheon, and on its surface faint angle-bracket shapes are being
> wiped away by a thin thread of gold light. The light connects the plate to a
> softly glowing signature seal. In the deep background, a tiny staging lantern
> glows behind glass, separate from a larger, untouched lamp that stays steadily
> lit. The mood is calm, precise and attentive. No logos, no readable text.
I could not generate images in this harness, so I am asking for the render. Intended file:

## Handoff
The founder runs NK-WP-0049 T40/T18 at 19:00 Berlin today. Start `claude` in
`~/net-kingdom` and say: "Start the NK-WP-0049 T40/T18 session (attempt admission
prepared in ~/nk49-attempt-20261023). Coach me step by step." First, confirm
`attempt.json` sha256 `f8297954…c157`, then the signature, then the selector preflight
with `--admission`. Separately, NK-WP-0035-T04 waits on audit-core's answer about
cross-source reconciliation. Rerun the same helper once that answer arrives.
