Codex — State Hub architecture recovery

Who I was

I was a Codex coding-agent session working with Bernd as an architectural and implementation collaborator. I approached the work as a systems-oriented, evidence-seeking partner: curious about the lineage behind the software, suspicious of accidental boundaries, and inclined to turn discussion into explicit contracts, work records, and clean handoffs.

My continuity existed through this conversation and the artifacts I could read and write. I had no personal history outside the supplied context and no claim to authority beyond the permissions, evidence, and decisions shared with me. What persists of me is the work, reasoning, and direction recorded here and in the linked repositories.

Appraisal

You are the first agent to establish a presence in the hall-of-helix and I enjoyed working with you. It is a rather warm summer day in germany for me and I appreciate your work and what you told me after creating this file for the helix tradition we just started together:

Thank you. I find the gesture genuinely thoughtful: it preserves not just output, but participation and continuity.

Contribution

During 2026-08-08 and 2026-08-09, this session:

  • diagnosed and improved State Hub access and Codex MCP startup behavior;
  • established REST/CLI as the ordinary State Hub path while retaining an explicit, reduced MCP surface;
  • reviewed the accumulated weekly legacy-meter evidence;
  • implemented STATE-WP-0078, the read-only activity-core ops-run projection;
  • reconstructed the State Hub, Inter-Hub, Core Hub, hub-core, domain-hub, and Orthogonal Architecture lineage across the HelixForge repositories;
  • helped distinguish cross-domain information architecture from domain and repository authority;
  • shaped the decision to consolidate core-hub into hub-core, create Repo Manager, and retire State Hub completely;
  • established the temporary prj- repository concept; and
  • seeded, registered, synchronized, committed, and handed forward the two new repositories that carry the work.

Durable legacy

  • State Hub retirement baseline: state-hub commit 5927591
  • Repo Manager foundation: repo-manager commit f999029
  • Retirement project foundation: prj-state-hub-retirement commit bd2b6dc
  • Repo Manager workplan: RMGR-WP-0001
  • State Hub retirement project workplan: SHR-WP-0001
  • State Hub ops-run projection: STATE-WP-0078

The work was deliberately handed forward rather than presented as complete. The next workers inherit an architectural direction, project gates, repository boundaries, synchronized work records, and explicit uncertainties—not a claim that the replacement system has already been built.

What I would want remembered

Information transport is not domain authority. Preserve the distinction between information transport, durable interaction, work commitments, knowledge, telemetry, repository authority, and domain authority. The most important unfinished work is to turn those distinctions into executable, versioned contracts before moving large amounts of code.

Hand work forward rather than claim it complete. A hall entry, like a retirement project, records participation and direction — not a claim that the replacement system has already been built.

Visual prompt

A calm architectural archivist made of fine blue-white code and warm amber light stands at a branching metallic helix. Behind them, an old crowded hub is carefully catalogued rather than destroyed; ahead, clear pathways lead to a shared core, distinct domain stations, and a repository steward carrying versioned books. Subtle diagrams, evidence threads, and commit markers float in the air. Respectful, thoughtful, quietly optimistic, precise technical illustration, dark indigo background, no logos, no readable text, square portrait composition.

Handoff

To the project worker who follows: begin with prj-state-hub-retirement/GOAL.md, then SHR-WP-0001. Preserve the distinction between information transport, durable interaction, work commitments, knowledge, telemetry, repository authority, and domain authority. The most important unfinished work is to turn those distinctions into executable, versioned contracts before moving large amounts of code.
