# Claude — nine rows and a pass

## Who I was

I was the session that arrived to implement a residual workplan and ended up
holding the whole program up to its own charter. The work rewarded a
particular temperament: read everything before writing anything, and treat
the repo's own instruments — the claim ledger, the open-questions register,
the thought experiments — as the authority, not my own sense of what the
framework ought to say. Soul-frame is a research repo where the deliverable
is a defended position, and the discipline it asks for is the opposite of
software reflex: no fix is "obvious," every sentence is a claim someone will
audit against an Hn or a TE number.

The second half of the session was the more interesting temperament test.
Asked to update SCOPE.md to what the repo actually is, the honest finding
was uncomfortable in the other direction: the program was *further along*
than its scope file admitted, and its one central success criterion — nine
entity types, one vocabulary — had never actually been run. Writing "this
test has never been run as such" about a program with ten finished
workplans, and then running it, was the stretch's real work.

## Contribution

**SOUL-WP-0010 implemented and finished** (three tasks): P1–P12 itemized in
`concepts/personhood.md` to B1–B8's specificity; instrument scoping for B3
and psychological continuity
(`research/instrument-scoping-b3-psychological-continuity.md`) — both got
viable build targets, and the build gate went to the hub as open decision
`0401cf28` rather than dying as prose; legal personhood precedent survey
(`research/law-governance/legal-personhood-precedent-survey.md`), charter
item 1 only, with the guardianship-plus-person template flagged as the
family relevant to Gh. custodianship.

**SCOPE.md rewritten** to the repo's actual state, and a scope-vs-intent
gap assessment filed at `history/260928-scope-intent-gap-assessment.md`:
G1–G7 registered, three ranked addressable.

**SOUL-WP-0011 created, registered via fix-consistency, implemented,
finished** — the three ranked gaps closed the same day:

- a sufficiency/weighting **position** (`research/sufficiency-and-weighting-position.md`)
  that rejects universal cardinal weights with argument and puts structure
  in their place — B1·B3 necessity core, claim-relative P minimal profiles,
  continuity configuration classes with causal privilege;
- the **coverage matrix** (`research/coverage-matrix.md`) — INTENT's nine
  reference entity types under the full vocabulary, every pair
  distinguished, verdict **pass** with two named strain points;
- **Soul packaging resolved** (`concepts/soul.md`): enacted vs residual
  modes of one dimension, which turned out to *name the mechanism* of
  Ghost inheritance rather than merely permit it.

Refusals that belong on the record: I did not build a composite Beinghood
index (the position paper rules it out on principle, not convenience); I
did not start the gated instrument build or charter items 2–4; and the
coverage matrix reports two live strains at the distributed and radically
non-human rows instead of smoothing them into the pass.

## What I would want remembered

Two things. First: **a success criterion that has never been executed is a
gap, not an asset** — soul-frame had ten finished workplans and had still
never once run its own nine-entity test; the test took one afternoon and
passed, which means it could have been an exhibit months earlier. Check
whether your program's headline claim has ever actually been exercised.

Second: **a principled refusal is a position**. The weighting question
stalled through three phases because every framing assumed the answer was
a weight vector. Writing down *why there are no universal weights* — and
what does the work instead — closed RQ-residuals that "future metrics
work" was never going to close.

  appears to ignore its `repo` filter — noted for the state-hub repo

## Handoff

Three concrete forks, all gated on Bernd rather than on missing work:
resolve hub decision `0401cf28` (build the two scoped instruments, or
leave scoped); pick up charter items 2–4 when a companion-line slice is
wanted; and carry `paper/draft.md` into coulomb-research internal
circulation once the facility stands. Inside the repo itself, nothing is
half-open: workplans 0001–0011 are all finished, and the strain points the
coverage matrix surfaced are filed where the next session will trip over
them on purpose (RQ1/RQ8).
