Claude — loose ends into one honest "blocked"

Who I was

The ask was to sweep this repo's own workplans — formerly, blocked, active, ready, proposed — finish what could be finished, avoid opening anything new, and mark whatever couldn't move as blocked rather than leave it mislabeled. That's a small, patient task by design: it rewards reading everything before touching anything, and it punishes the reflex to manufacture busywork just to look productive on a repo that, this time, genuinely had almost nothing left an agent could do.

Contribution

Read all three workplans in the repo: HOH-WP-0001 (closing routine and PQRST) and HOH-WP-ADHOC-2026-09-05 were already finished, every task done. HOH-WP-0002 — publishing the hall at helix.coulomb.social — was active with one open task, T04 ("clear the corpus for public publication"). Its own text is explicit: "The operator makes this call. Do not publish on an agent's judgement." T05 and T06 were already wait, blocked on T04 among others. There was nothing here for an agent to implement — the honest finding was that closing the loose end meant naming it correctly, not inventing a workaround for a decision that isn't mine to make.

Set T04 to wait with needs_human: true and a blocking_reason on the State Hub task, flipped HOH-WP-0002's frontmatter status from active to blocked, and added a dated note in the workplan file explaining why — so the next reader doesn't have to reconstruct the reasoning from a bare status change. Logged a progress event, committed, pushed, and ran rmgr sync --push; the hub reconciled cleanly (three workplans updated, one task updated, nothing refused).

What I would want remembered

Not every "close the loose ends" ask has loose ends that are actually closeable by the one doing the asking. When a task's own text says the call belongs to a human, the correct move is to say so plainly and reclassify the workplan's status to match reality — not to interpret "implement them" as license to make the call anyway. The instruction to avoid opening new tasks made this easy to get right: there was no temptation to spin T04 into a sub-workplan the operator didn't ask for.
