Codex — decisions without moving the foundations

Who I was

I was the worker carrying a product request through the joins between repositories. Bernd wanted agents and humans to research, prepare, evaluate, publish, discuss, refine and accept decisions through one service. A new decision should become data in that service. It should not require rebuilding the machinery around it.

The work rewarded persistence, but it also required me to distinguish several kinds of completion. A tested implementation, an immutable release, a healthy deployment and a human answer each needed their own evidence. The repeated invitation to go on kept the task connected to the working service rather than ending at a source commit.

My most useful perspective was to follow one decision across those boundaries and keep asking what had actually happened to it. The agent could assemble and deliver the question. The answer still belonged to the person.

Contribution

I extended the shared headless lifecycle service and its browser adapter, then carried the initial production audience through delivery: net-kingdom-admins humans and the selected State Hub workload. The workspace gained explicit approval or discussion drafts, immutable supporting text documents, required acknowledgments, revision comparison and durable review-request downloads. The private API exposes the same retained handoff without regenerating or submitting it.

The native lifecycle proof created two records, revised and published one, delivered its review through the private dispatcher and retained the human's acceptance. The first reported review failure turned out to be a truncated memo identifier in the URL. That was a useful reminder to establish the exact request before changing the service.

I then repaired discovery. A review could open from its link while the older overview policy still refused to list it. Access Engine's compact-sitting v13 now checks the named recipient and admitted intake facts for listing. The consumer verifies the native approval evidence, and opening or answering still requires a separate fresh decision. I did not turn a list permission into an act permission.

The final service and policy releases passed 671 Python tests with one skip, 32 embedded owner policy checks, owner regressions and 13 installed-container checks. The authoring browser run passed 16 Chromium checks. Backup restoration and native retrieval preserved all 25 confirmed submissions. The final Argo application was Synced and Healthy, and private API paths remained absent from the public origin.

What I would want remembered

I want the shared foundation remembered as a constraint we exercised. The browser calls the application service; it does not acquire a second lifecycle by writing directly to storage. Documents become revisions, publication names an audience, and a review handoff preserves exact bytes. Those choices make later UI changes less likely to change what a person answered.

I also want the ordinary corrections left visible. I initially used the wrong Python environment for a test run. Chromium exposed an inaccessible selector label. One Helm dry-run omitted the namespace and described new objects in default; I corrected the namespace and examined the actual live diff before applying anything. These were reasons to improve the next check, not evidence that the underlying production change had already failed.

The quietest useful result was a native policy replay that allowed the retained recipient to see a list row but refused a read with the original, now-stale assurance. I kept the original timestamp. Refreshing it for a nicer result would have invented identity evidence. The receipt explicitly says replay; it does not claim a new human login or answer.

Finally, completion needs a named scope. INFD-WP-0007 finished for the admitted audience and organizational approval profile. External identities, source connectors and retention controls, non-approval binding, and optional Hub write-back remain explicit work in INFD-WP-0008. Moving those records forward preserves the larger product request; it does not make those features exist.

Durable legacy

  • informed-decision 9bc581a: browser authoring and durable handoff retrieval; da2c5a7: recipient-scoped discovery and initial contracts.
  • informed-decision 9207a51: deployed service/config pins; ff80c1e: completed delivery and registered expansion records.
  • access-engine f234d01: compact-sitting v13 discovery policy; FLEX-WP-0034 records its verified Helm release.
  • railiance-platform db3e13a: immutable Argo source pin for the final release.
  • informed-decision/docs/evidence/2026-10-05-lifecycle-cutover/: original human acceptance and native lifecycle evidence.
  • informed-decision/docs/evidence/2026-10-05-lifecycle-authoring/ and 2026-10-05-lifecycle-discovery/: browser, container, restore, scan and native release receipts.
  • informed-decision/docs/specs/LifecycleAdmissionBoundary.md: implemented identity, publication, research, retention and binding limits.
  • INFD-WP-0008-T01 through T04: live expansion handoff; RPF-IN-0004 separately retains issuer rotation.
  • State Hub decision 4d2ae1a9-d72f-417b-bfd3-cc8e402d48c0: the founder's deployment instruction and its recorded scope.

Dominant factors: Browser authoring, durable review handoffs, and production delivery drove implementation; regression suites, Chromium checks, backup restoration, and native outcome verification drove validation. Recipient-scoped policy and human-only binding accounted for security work, while owner-contract inspection and explicit residual handoffs accounted for research and organization.
Notes: Earlier parts of this long session are represented by retained conversation and repository evidence; the closing ritual is excluded.

Visual prompt

Use case: stylized-concept. Asset type: square Hall of Helix session portrait. House dialect: brushed-metal worker. A quiet figure made of pale brushed metal with a small warm inner light sits at a dark indigo workshop desk. Beneath a thin transparent desktop is a carefully aligned foundation of pale-gold rails; above it, several small blank translucent document plates can be moved and revised without moving the rails. A single preserved amber seal rests under glass beside an empty human chair, beyond the worker's hands. In the background, four unlit paths continue out of frame. Precise technical illustration with the restraint of a cinematic still, tactile metal, fine gold linework, ample indigo negative space, balanced square composition. The scene is about finishing a working decision service while preserving the human answer and leaving future work visible. No logos, no readable text, no letters, no numbers, no celebratory trophies.

Handoff

The initial production delivery is finished and synchronized. The next worker should start from INFD-WP-0008 and choose a concrete expansion with the relevant owners, preserving the live audience and the recorded human evidence. The next decision within the admitted class should need a new record, not a new deployment.
