# Fiction & Cultural Precedents — Conceptual Laboratory (Phase VI)

**Epistemic rule:** Fiction is a **laboratory of conceptual possibilities**, not
|
||
empirical evidence. It surfaces intuitions, failure modes, and vocabulary tests.

## 1. Why fiction matters here
|
||
|
||
Soul Frame asks when an informational system becomes *someone another someone can
|
||
know*. Fiction has long explored:
|
||
|
||
- artificial persons recognized as social beings,
|
||
- uploaded or transferred minds,
|
||
- digital ghosts and afterlives,
|
||
- collective/distributed minds,
|
||
- identity forks and copies,
|
||
- human–AI relationships.
|
||
|
||
These cases stress definitions faster than sparse real systems can.

|
